Happy Groundhogs day amigos! We are pretty happy about how mild this winter has been so far and we hope Phil's shadow is mistaken. We have been contemplating why he was named Phil for the past few minutes. A groundhog named Phil.
We are super excited to announce the launch of our new line of collaborative mats, grounded +! Check out our store to learn more about all the amazing people involved!!

A few weeks ago we traveled from Brooklyn to Cleveland, OH on Amtrack for a wedding we designed(photos coming soon!). When first imagining the long trip I wasn't that excited......I'm not the best at sitting still for any amount of time. Boy was I wrong!!! I'm here to say traveling by train is the absolute best. Not only did we get to talk with some amazing people, see some beautiful sights, but we also got to take that train over in true dc style. By the end of the trip we had set up a make shift studio in the lounge car and we were even crafting gifts for all the inquisitive conductors!
Our senior year at SCAD we decided it would be a great idea to dress as alien housewives for Halloween. We stayed in the night before to prepare our costumes... we bought matching waitress dresses from the thrift store, sewed ourselves some metallic aprons, made little doodles for our hair... we got really prepared. We were super excited and thought we would surely be the hit of the night. The day of Halloween we took it a little too far and things turned for the worst.
For us, everyday is truly a collaborative process. I feel so fortunate to have met a best friend that is also my creative counter part.....she is the peanut butter to my jelly fo sure! Since becoming friends we have always been inspired by working together and I can't imagine it any other way. When dreaming of our next collection of mats we thought it would be totally rad if we could step out of our "dc sandwich" and collaborate with all of our amazing artist and designer friends that inspire us day in and out. We played a bit of exquisite corpse with all of our homies.
We started on the lounging hill on Wednesday and we are sooooo excited!!! Our friend TJ, a seasoned landscaper who works for the parks department, is helping us with the planning and building. We're so excited to have him around! He's been an invaluable resource. He also brought us back to earth by re-teaching us about slopes. We wanted more like a mountain but he kindly explained that we would no longer have a garden because "the mountain" would take up the entire lot. Oh orology. The tires from upstate came in handy though! We're super interested in this type of building.
We were going a little nuts inside today... the sunshine was calling us, so we moved our office out to the lot! We feel so lucky and grateful to have the opportunity to work on design.plot and we're trying to take full advantage of the outdoors before the weather really turns. There are so many beautiful things popping up every day. It's amazing to watch the grounds simply transform over night. I made a little wildflower bouquet to keep us inspired. I want to make about 100 more but gotta make the paper for now. We hope to be growing lots of flowers next spring...
Slowly but surely we're moving along. Every free chance we get a little more gets added to the fence. Keep checking back... you will only be able to peek in soon! Tiny peepholes.
We trekked upstate on Friday to pick up over 100 free tires! It was quite the adventure-- driving a 14 foot box truck an hour and a half in the rain. We kept getting hollered at on the way out of the city... I guess people aren't used to lady truck drivers.
Hill construction on design.plot begins next weekend! We're going to use to tires for the foundation of our mini mountain! Stay tuned for more process photos and possibly a stop motion!
Dracula made friends with a caterpillar!! We told him that he too will become a butterfly some day. He was pleased.
